Pentagon Press Secretary Hails Passage of Iraqi Provincial Election Law

WASHINGTON, DC - (Sept. 24, 2008) –  A senior Pentagon spokesman hailed today's passage of a new Iraqi provincial election law, which opens the way to holding local elections within the next few months. The law's passage "is another hugely encouraging sign of progress in Iraq," Pentagon Press Secretary Geoff Morrell told reporters today.

"This is exactly what we have been looking for," Morrell said.

England: Combined Federal Campai Contributions Aid Less-Fortunate Citizens

WASHINGTON, DC – Americans socked by natural disasters can get assistance through aid provided by donations to the Combined Federal Campaign, Deputy Defense Secretary Gordon R. England said at the Pentagon's CFC kickoff ceremony today.

 

Hurricanes Gustav and Ike devastated the homes and lives of millions of Gulf Coast residents, England said.

"Healing Field" Takes Shape for Pentagon Memorial Dedication

WASHINGTON, Sept. 10, 2008 – As darkness fell over the nation’s capital tonight, about 200 volunteers busily posted nearly 3,000 full-sized American flags near the site of the Pentagon Memorial to be officially dedicated tomorrow, the seventh anniversary of the 9-11 terrorist attacks.

U.S. to Review Military Aid to Georgia

The Pentagon will send an assessment team to Georgia to determine what role the U.S. should play as the nation's military rebuilds after clashes with Russia, a Defense Department official said today.
