Mullen Encourages Troops to Seek Mental Health Care When Needed

FORT DRUM, N.Y., –
The chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff emphasized the importance of de-stigmatizing mental-health care for returning war veterans today as he cut the ribbon on a newly renovated facility designed to improve that care.

 

Navy Adm. Mike Mullen, paying his first visit to the home of the 10th Mountain Division, presided at the official opening a new, state-of-the-art, mental health facility.

Mullen Shares Force Concerns of Coming Year

WASHINGTON, DC – Afghanistan, "dwell time" at home stations between deployments and the health of the force are at the forefront of concerns the Defense Department must address, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff said. The United States will deploy between 20,000 and 30,000 more troops to Afghanistan in the coming year, Navy Adm. Mike Mullen said in a Jan. 16 Pentagon Channel interview.

Joint Chiefs Chairman Mullen Travels to Pakistan to 'Continue Dialogue'

ISLAMABAD, PAKISTAN - The chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff arrived here yesterday to "continue dialogue" with senior Pakistani civilian and military leaders. During this fifth visit to Pakistan as chairman, Navy Adm. Mike Mullen met with Chief of Army Staff Gen. Ashfaq Kayani and other senior government and military officials to discuss ongoing operations in the border region with Afghanistan.
