Coalition Forces Capture Two Key al-Qaida Leaders in Baghdad

BAGHDAD, Aug. 25, 2008 – Coalition forces captured two suspected senior al-Qaida in Iraq leaders here during recent operations, military officials reported.

 

Salim Abdallah Ashur al-Shujayri, also known as Abu Uthman, was captured Aug. 11. He reportedly is the al-Qaida emir of Baghdad’s Rusafa district. Ali Rash Nasir Jiyad al-Shammari, also known as Abu Tiba, was captured Aug. 17. Both men are assessed to be long-time members of al-Qaida in Iraq, officials said.

Coalition Forces Detain Nine Suspects in Iraq

WASHINGTON, Aug. 25, 2008 – Coalition forces in Iraq detained nine suspected terrorists, including five wanted men, during operations around the country targeting al-Qaida leaders yesterday and today, military officials reported.

Using information from a July 9 operation, coalition forces today captured a man assessed to be a senior terrorist liaison in Abu Ghraib. The man is suspected of facilitating the movement of senior terrorist leaders in Baghdad and was detained with one additional suspect.

Troops Capture 11 Terrorism Suspects in Iraq

IRAQ - August 24, 2008 - In Beiji, south of Mosul, coalition forces captured four men suspected of planning attacks using poison. Forces nabbed a suspect in Sharqat, also south of Mosul, wanted for transporting weapons and explosives for al-Qaida in Iraq.
