Safety Tips for a Stuck Accelerator

PUTNAMVILLE, IN - Toyota Motor Corporation has stopped selling and building eight models, saying there’s a possibility that the accelerator pedals on these models may get stuck in a partially depressed position or return slowly to the idle position. The automaker and experts have advice for drivers of any vehicle if an accelerator pedal sticks. 

BASIC ADVICE: 

Consumer Reports magazines instructions is simple: First, brake hard. Then put the car in neutral. When you come to a stop, turn off the engine.

State Police Increase Patrols over Holidays

PENDLETON, IN - The Indiana State Police would like to remind all motorists to do their part in making our highways safe during the Christmas and New Year’s holidays.  According to Mica Perry of the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute in 2008 there were 13 fatalities over the Christmas holiday period.  There were 10 fatalities over the New Year period last year.  In the Pendleton District four were killed in Hamilton County, one in Madison County, and none in Hancock County.

State Trooper and his K-9 Partner Struck by Drunk Driver

INDIANAPOLIS, IN - On Friday, August 14, 2009, at 2:30 a.m., Indiana State Trooper Kyle Freeman of the Indianapolis Post and his K-9 partner “Dudley” were struck by a drunk driver.  Trooper Freeman was sitting in his Indiana State Police car at a previous crash on Interstate 70 east bound at Emerson.  Freeman had his K-9 partner “ Dudley” in the rear seat when they were rear ended.

Indianapolis Woman Arrested after Pursuit

INDIANAPOLIS, IN - – On the morning of Wednesday June 17, 2009,  at approximately 7:00 a.m., Indiana State Police responded to reports of a reckless driving vehicle on Indy’s north side.  The vehicle was located and fled from Troopers resulting in the driver being arrested.

ANDERSON, IN -  The Indiana State Police have been asked by the Madison County Sheriff’s Department to investigate a police action shooting that occurred Saturday, June 13, 2009 at approximately 10 p.m. on State Road 67 and County Road 150 South in Madison County.

Rochester Man Arrested for Marijuana Grow Operation

ROCHESTER, IN – On the night of June 11, 2009, a nine month long drug investigation by Indiana State Police Trooper T.J. Zeiser and Rochester Police Officer Andy Schotts  resulted in the arrest of David E. Basile, 48, 1307 Dogwood Drive, Rochester, IN.

Basile faces class D felony charges for cultivating marijuana, maintaining a common nuisance, and possession of marijuana over 30 grams. He also faces misdemeanor charges for possession of switch blade knives and possession of drug paraphernalia.

INDIANA - Three area local organizations are purchasing needed items thanks to the generosity of the Indiana State Police Alliance (ISPA) and the troopers that the organization represents. The Fulton Athletic League, the Peru Little League, and the Peru High School varsity girl’s basketball team have been provided grant money to purchase needed equipment and uniforms.

Early Morning Pursuit Lands a Loogootee Man in Jail

 

LOOGOOTEE, IN -  An early morning pursuit in Martin County on February 26, 2009, ended when the vehicle's tires were deflated by spike strips. Preliminary investigation revealed that around 12:17 a.m., Trooper Jarrod Lents attempted to stop a blue and yellow Ford pickup in Loogootee for disregarding a stop sign at Poplar and Walnut Streets.
