RANDOLPH AIR FORCE BASE, Texas, Jan. 2, 2009 – For the past 15 months, Leo Knight-Inglesby has pushed himself beyond the limits he and his loved ones ever thought possible.

The 22-year-old Silver Spring, Md., native shed more than 160 pounds to meet the physical standard of Air Force enlistment, amazing his recruiter, family and friends.

U.S. Turns Over Green Zone Security Responsibility to Iraq

WASHINGTON, Jan. 1, 2009 – The United States formally transferred the Republican Palace back to the Iraqi government today, a concrete symbol of the continuing improvement in the country.

The transfer came about as the status of forces agreement between the United States and Iraq took effect.

Offer Accepted on Plant 18, Key GM Parcel in Anderson

ANDERSON, IN - At a meeting of the Anderson Redevelopment Commission on Tuesday, December 2, 2008, a purchase agreement was executed on a key parcel of land once occupied by General Motors. The parcel is located at 2900 E. Scatterfield Road, and was known as Plant 18. The $425,000 agreement was presented by Stan and Teresa Lay of Hy-Tech Machining and approved unanimously by the Anderson Redevelopment Commission.

100,000 Gallon Plus Water Users Should Register with State Soon

 

INDIANAPOLIS, IN - Facilities located in the Great Lakes-St. Lawrence River Basin that have the capability to withdraw 100,000 gallons per day need to register with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources before Dec. 8, 2008, according to Indiana Farm Bureau.

Public Justice Sues IHSAA, Monroe County School Corp. for Barring Female Athlete

 

MONROE COUNTY, IN - Public Justice and its cooperating counsel filed a federal lawsuit against the Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) and the Monroe County Community School Corporation (MCCSC) late Friday, charging them with discrimination against a 14-year-old student athlete at Bloomington High School South on account of her gender.

INDOT Approves Funding for Purchase of Land

Transportation Enhancement grant to acquire property in Metamora

SEYMOUR, IN - The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) awarded Franklin County $689,600 in Local Public Agency (LPA) funding.  These funds will be used to purchase 33 acres of property in the Town of Metamora.  The property will be used for the development of a visitor's center, museum and interpretive center at the Whitewater Valley Regional Interpretive Park.

Firm to More than Double its Indianapolis Workforce

INDIANAPOLIS, IN - National debt recovery agency Premiere Credit of North America announced plans today to expand its national headquarters here, more than doubling its 250-person workforce.

The firm, which specializes in recovering unpaid government debt, plans to invest more than $4 million to expand its eastside headquarters and to locate a second operations center at a yet-to-be-announced site in Indianapolis.

Veterans' Commons Bricks Again Available

ANDERSON, IN -  In honor of Veterans Day, the City of Anderson Department of Parks and Recreation is again opening the Shadyside Park Veterans’ Commons area for brick sales.  Around 850 inscribed bricks, sold in 1998 and 1999, now fill the Veterans’ Commons. Approximately 100 more spaces for bricks have been made available; bricks will be offered for sale by between Veterans Day and December 31.  The bricks will cost $125 each and may be purchased through the Parks Department.
