Late Morning Accident Leaves Motorcyclist Seriously Injured

ANDERSON, IN – Just before 11:30 a.m., police responded to an accident near the intersection of Broadway and Oak Streets.  According to reports, the driver of a 2006 Harley Davidson was driving north on Broadway when she was struck by a 1994 Buick Roadmaster also northbound. 

The car’s 71-year-old driver appeared to be attempting to move from the left lane to the right, when she inadvertently struck the motorcycle.  The car ran over the cyclist before striking the vacant house at 1236 Broadway Street.

$1.5 Million Grant to Yield Six Officers

ANDERSON, IN – Late yesterday, Anderson Police learned they had been awarded $1.5 million as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. 

According to Chief Darron Sparks the monies will be used to hire six additional police officers.  “We’re excited,” said Sparks “The additional officers will allow us to further our primary mission which is serve our community.”

Officer Brooks Surrenders to Face Charges

ANDERSON, IN – On Thursday June 25, 2009, just before 11 a.m., Officer Lincoln Brooks turned himself in at the Madison County Jail where he was booked in on charges of felony charges of residential entry and strangulation, two misdemeanor counts of battery, and disorderly conduct and mischief.  The criminal charges stem from a May 23 altercation involving Brooks girlfriend and her father.   

The 11-year veteran has been on administrative leave from the Anderson Police Department since just after the incident. Brooks was released after posting bond.

Hillery Shepherd Receives Inaugural Character Counts Student of the Month Award

ANDERSON, IN – When the younger sister of one of her fellow students at Killbuck Elementary was critically burned third grader Hillery Shepherd did what most of us might have.  She said a prayer and offered her support. 

It was what Hillery would do next that set her apart from her classmates, and well most everyone else.  According to her principal, Judy Ketring, Hillery helped organize a hat day fundraiser.  On April 24, students, faculty and staff were encouraged to wear their favorite hat to school.

State Police K-9 Alerts on Large Amount of Cocaine in Anderson

ANDERSON, IN - Indiana State Police Trooper Kendrick Donald’s K-9 "Murtaugh,"
who took to the streets in June, assisted the Anderson Police Department
on Friday, August 8th with a large cocaine arrest. 

Murtaugh alerted on a U-storage bin in the 3700 block of MLK in Anderson. 
The amount of drugs located by Murtaugh was 275 grams of crack cocaine,
and 235 grams of cocaine.  Officers also recovered $2000 in currency,
one handgun, and two ballistic vests.
