State Selects Lawyer, Developer for Economic Post

INDIANAPOLIS, IN  - Chad Pittman, a lawyer and veteran land developer, will join the state's economic development team Monday as executive vice president of the Indiana Economic Development Corporation.

Pittman joins the state's job hunting agency following a year-long deployment to Iraq with the Indiana Army National Guard and a more than three-year stint as a corporate land developer with Indianapolis-based homebuilder C.P. Morgan.

"Chad Pittman is a proven leader that comes to us with a host of business and legal skills that we'll need to continue attracting new job-creating investment in these tough economic times," said Mitch Roob, Secretary of Commerce and chief executive officer of the Indiana Economic Development Corporation.

Pittman replaces Chad Sweeney who served with the agency since its creation in February 2005 in roles ranging from chief financial officer to executive vice president and general counsel.

"Chad Sweeney was here from the first days of the Daniels Administration and has played a pivotal role in bringing new jobs and investment to the state.  We owe him a great deal of gratitude for his service and wish him well in his future endeavors," Roob said.

Pittman, who will officially assume Sweeney's duties Monday, served as corporate director of new market development and land development for CP Morgan from 2005 to December 2007.  He also served as the company's director of government affairs in 2004 and 2005.  Prior to his roles with the homebuilder, Pittman served as a lawyer with Bose, McKinney and Evans LLP; treasurer and vice president of finance of Indianapolis-based DynoMed; and founder of GDI Homes in Carmel.

"Indiana has emerged as a leader in economic development thanks to the hard work of Governor Daniels and the team at the IEDC," said Pittman.  "It's an honor to join the team and begin tackling the issues that face our state's economy amid a global recession."

Pittman is a 2002 graduate of the Indiana University School of Law in Indianapolis and holds a Bachelor of Science in Business from Indiana University.  The Zionsville resident is a graduate of the Indiana Economic Development Course at Ball State University and served as a board member of the Boone County Economic Development Corporation from 2004 to 2007.
