Home Invasion Leads to Arrest of Local Man

ANDERSON, IN – Just after noon on Thursday, January 21, 2010, Anderson Police were called to 512 Marine Drive to investigate an attempted robbery.  According to 50-year-old Jeff Kemerly, he answered a knock at the door only to be met by a gun being shoved in his face.  Kemerly and the gunman struggled briefly over the handgun before the gunman gained control and struck Kemerly in the head with the weapon.

Kemerly was able to escape while the gunman ran inside and confronted Kemerly’s girlfriend, Diana K. Harmon, and his brother, Charlie Kemerly.  The gunman turned his attention to Harmon grabbing her and demanding money.  The elder Kemerly used the opportunity to flee where he was able to notify police.  The gunman would eventually flee the home where he ran northbound from the home.

Officers responding to the scene encountered 18-year-old Marcus J. Peoples at 27th and Morton Streets.  Peoples, dressed in clothes matching the description provided by the victims, attempted to pull the handgun as officers approached him, and was forcibly taken into custody by police.  Positively identified by all three victims, Peoples is charged with felony offenses including; burglary, battery, confinement, attempted robbery and resisting law enforcement.
